Hypertension | Eastern Nephrology

This is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is elevated. It can either be classified as primary or secondary. Primary hypertension is when no medical cause can be determined for the high blood pressure. Secondary hypertension is the result of other conditions, such as kidney disease. Often referred to as the “silent killer” because it has no symptoms, hypertension can inflict great damage to kidneys and other organs.

High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of kidney disease and it increases the risk of progression to ESKD. As such, controlling hypertension is a primary focus of ENA physicians and is a key consideration in managing patient treatment.
